The Department is pleased to announce that Associate Professor Joseph Ooi is the recipient of the prestigious International Real Estate Society Achievement Award for 2008.

The International Real Estate Society (IRES) is a federation of regional real estate societies such as the American Real Estate Society (ARES), European Real Estate Society (ERES), Asian Real Estate Society (AsRES), Pacific Rim Real Estate Society (PRRES), etc. Each year, IRES present this prestigious award to a real estate academic who has made an outstanding contribution to real estate research, education and practice at the international level.

The citation for the award reads:

This research has provided major insights into the operation and dynamics of the direct and indirect components in various international real estate markets, including the US, Europe and Asia. Often this research has been done with leading researchers in other countries; further reinforcing Joseph’s international real estate research network and the level of research esteem that he is seen in at an international level. Joseph Ooi is also actively involved in several of the regional real estate societies and is on the editorial board for a number of their journals. He has actively contributed to the development of the real estate programs at NUS.

Joseph Ooi continues the fine tradition of outstanding international real estate researchers who have received this IRES Achievement Award in recent years. Previous recipients include Jim Webb (US), Graeme Newell (Australia), Chau Kwong Wing (Hong Kong), Ko Wang (US), Alastair Adair (Ireland), Neil Crosby (UK), Elaine Worzala (US), Colin Lizieri (UK), Ong Seow Eng (Singapore), Simon Stevenson (UK) and Martin Hoesli (Switzerland).

The award presentation was made at the recent America Real Estate Society conference in Florida, US held from April 17 – 19, 2008. Winning this prestigious award has further enhanced the profile and reputation of NUS within the global real estate community.
