The Department of Real Estate, National University of Singapore, in collaboration with the Singapore Institute of Surveyors and Valuers convened the “Shaping Singapore – Perspectives from the Young” Seminar on 18 March 2005.
This Seminar, attended by Junior College students and NUS undergraduates, saw our young (aged 17 to 24) articulating their views on how Singapore, in the words of Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong, could become a great city with “that extra X-factor.” During the “In Conversation” segment chaired by Dr Amy Khor, MP for Hong Kah GRC and Chairperson of the GPC for MND, the participants as stakeholders of the future were encouraged to respond to the PM’s challenge by coming forward with innovative ideas on how Singapore could become the kind of place “where you want to work and play all day and night, because there is too much to see and do, and the city never sleeps.”
As a post-event of the “Shaping Singapore – Perspectives from the Young” Seminar, this competition is intended to further raise the awareness of JC students and NUS undergraduates about the exciting world of the built environment and how as stakeholders they can have a voice in shaping the city of the future.
We are therefore inviting all Junior College students and NUS undergraduates to participate in the competition on “Thinking Out of the Box: How to make Singapore a great city with that extra X-factor.”
