The highlight of module ‘RE4880 Topics in Real Estate’ is the “Summer Programme (SP2008)”. Led by Assoc Prof Yu Shi Ming, Head of the Department of Real Estate, and Assoc Prof David Ho K.H., some 30 Year-3 undergraduate students are taken on a field trip to Macau, Hong Kong & Shenzhen (MHKS) from 31 May to 7 June 2008. As an integral part of SP2008, 2 intensive weeks of pre-field trip comprise in-depth seminars on approach sharing, guest lectures by Dr Boaz Boon (Senior Vice President of Research of CapitaLand Ltd) & Mr Jeremy Choy (Managing Director of MacQuarie Global Property Advisors Ltd), internal lectures, students’ research & discussions for their group projects. The MHKS field trip in turn did imperatively feature guest talks by the HK Polytechnic University, University of HK, University of Macau, local government agencies, housing & planning authorities, real estate consultancies, investment banks, interesting company visits like Sun Hung Kai, Sino Land Group, real estate development sites like the super prime International Finance Centre 2 & major integrated resorts (The Venetian & MGM Grand in Macau). The students are required to keep personal journals to log their learning experiences during the filed trip. On the whole, they also benefitted from their own fond memories of the field trip and their team work.
