About CRES
|
CRES is the acronym for Centre for Real Estate Studies, the research
arm of the Department of Real Estate, National University of
Singapore.
CRES was set up within the former School of Building & Estate
Management in 1991 with the objective of forging closer industrial
research collaboration on issues of concern to the real estate
industry. Over the years, Memoranda of Understanding for joint
research were signed with statutory boards such as the Urban
Redevelopment Authority, Jurong Town Corporation, and Housing &
Development Board, among others. CRES has also provided expert
consultancy services and/or market specific studies to private
corporations. Further, CRES coordinates research activities and
administers the admissions of students to the department's
postgraduate research programme.
Following the reorganisation of the School of Building & Real
Estate* into two departments - the Department of Building and the
Department of Real Estate - in June 1999, the scope for CRES is
widened to encompass the mapping of research directions for the
Department of Real Estate. In line with the university-wide drive
towards becoming a global knowledge enterprise, CRES has been tasked
with charting the department's future direction in real estate
research.
CRES adopts a three-pronged strategy in meeting this challenge.
Firstly, we aim to strengthen the research ethos among the faculty
and cultivate a strong research culture within the department.
Secondly, we would like to forge closer links with the real estate
industry and government organisations through research
collaborations and consultancy projects. Thirdly, we look to
initiate multi-discipline, cross-faculty and cross-university
research collaborations.
To provide a clearer direction of the research strengths and
activities of the department, CRES focuses on two core research
themes: Space & Asset Markets (SAM), and Urban Planning & Management
(UPM). Under these two broad research cores, three areas are
actively pursued:
