Academic Programs
Bachelor
of Science (Real Estate)
With effect from the
Academic Year 2006/07, the Department implemented the revised
BSc
(Real Estate) curriculum and the direct admission of students into the
BSc (Real Estate) program. The direct admission initiative for the BSc (Real
Estate) program resulted in a Year 1 intake of 141 full-time and 10
part-time students.
Master of
Science (Real Estate)
The
MSc (Real
Estate) program took 25 students on board for the 15th
Intake. The new group comprises 6 full-time students and 19 part-time
students. There are 11 foreign students from six countries, namely,
Malaysia, Nigeria, the People’s Republic of China, the Philippines, South
Korea, and the United States of America.
MBA
with specialization in Real Estate
10 students have
enrolled in the
MBA with
Specialization in Real Estate program in Academic Year 2006/07. There is
a good mix of local and international students as well as diversity in their
educational and professional background. 5 students are registered on a
full time basis. Following a review of the course structure, full time
students will now be able to complete the classroom component of the program
within a year if they elect to undertake an Integrated Project in their
third semester.
Distinguished Visitors
Professor David Geltner, from
Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), visited the Department from
17 - 21 July, 2006. During his visit, Prof Geltner gave a lunch talk, "The
Expanding Real Estate Universe, Globalization and Property Derivatives". The
lunch talk was sponsored by Urban Land Institute South Asia Council.
Associate Professor Yang
Shiawee, from the College of Administration, Northeastern University visited
the Department form 11 - 14 July 2006. During the visit, A/P Yang presented
a seminar paper entitled "Conditional Expectation and the Variability of
Equity REIT Returns".
Associate Professor Andrey
Pavlov, from Simon Fraser University visited the Department from 3 - 17
August 2006. A/P Pavlov gave a series of lectures to our postgraduates by
research. He also presented a seminar paper entitled "Underpriced
Default Spread Exacerbates Market".

Tran Thi Hanh Quyen and Alan Pham Quang Anh are among our pioneer

of 6 Vietnamese students who recently graduated with the BSc (Real Estate)
degree.

Work?” won the best manuscript prize in the “Industrial” category.

Executive Programs
The Department ran
a customized training program on Real Estate for Singapore
Land
Authority in Aug-Sep 2006.
Come Oct-Nov 06,
the Department will
be conducting a training program for the
Singapore’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs
and the Korean International
Cooperation Agency (KOICA). Focusing on planning
and management issues,
the 10-day course will introduce participants from developing countries
to the Singapore experience in urban and regional development.
