NUS Department of Real Estate Forges Closer Ties with Realm Business Solutions in Real Estate Education and Research

Realm Business Solutions Incorporated, the leading provider of software solutions to the commercial real estate industry, donated SGD$320,000 worth of ‘ARGUS Software’ licenses to the NUS Department of Real Estate. Through this partnership, DRE students will have ready access to state-of-the-art computing platforms for commercial property investment analysis. NUS-DRE is the first institution in Singapore to  receive a donation from Realm.

In conjunction with the licensing agreement signing ceremony held on 13 Nov 2006, the DRE hosted  a public lecture featuring two prominent experts in the global real estate industry – Professor Jeff Fisher, Dunn Professor of Real Estate, Indiana University and Mr Bruce Kellog, Managing Director of Cushman & Wakefield, Valuation Advisory Services.

Preview Seminar - MSc (Real Estate) and MBA (with Specialization in Real Estate)

Candidates interested in the above graduate programmes are cordially invited to a Preview Seminar scheduled on 18 January 2007 from 11:00 to 11:40 am in Executive Room 1. The programme of the preview seminar is:

11.00am - 11.20am: MSc (RE) to be followed by a Q&A session;
11.20am - 11.40am: MBA (with Specialization in RE) to be followed by a Q&A session.

We are also happy to announce that the MSc (Real Estate) course will be welcoming its first January intake in 2007. In addition to Singaporeans, more than 20% of this 16th intake of graduate students come from various regions, namely, Europe, Middle East and Asia.

 

              Visitors

Visitors from The Center for Aged-Housing Remodeling Technology, South Korea

A team of 18 research members from The Center for Aged-Housing Remodeling Technology, South Korea, visited the department on 20 October 2006. They were on a 5-day study trip to Singapore to learn about our public housing policy and in particular, the renewal of old housing estates in Singapore. Besides NUS, the team also visited HDB.

The team’s visit in Singapore was facilitated by
Ms. Choi Sun-Young, who hails from South Korea and is a current graduate student in the department. Over the past few years, the department has attracted a number of students from South Korea for its MSc (RE) programme.

 
Announcements
Executive Master Class on Real Estate Capital Markets & Securitization

In support of the Amos Koh Memorial Fund, the Department of Real Estate and the Amos Koh Memorial Fund Committee are pleased to organize an Executive Master Class (EMC) on a series of issues relating to the development of real estate capital markets and financial securitization. Held twice weekly from 24 January to 10 February 2007, the EMC aims to benefit executives and professionals who would like to learn more about developments in securitizing real estate and emerging real estate investment opportunities in a globalized economy. Lecturers for the EMC comprise faculty at the Department of Real Estate in collaboration with industry experts from Wong Partnership.
