Revised Curricula

New modules and tracks in the
B.Sc. (Real Estate) curriculum
. The 2006/07 intake will follow the revised curriculum featured by the addition of 4 new essential modules and 8 elective modules. Students are offered opportunities to develop careers in any 1 of 3 areas:  
Real Estate Development & Management, Real Estate Finance & Investment, and Urban Policy & Urban Planning.

Customization and flexibility in MBA with Specialization in Real Estate. Candidates take 10 compulsory modules (6 business modules and 4 real estate modules) instead of 14 previously. In addition, they can do an integrative project which requires working on a real problem in collaboration with industry partners. Full-time students can complete the course work within 1 year. Please contact us if you would like to partner with the university in the integrative project or internship scheme.

Regional Classrooms

M.Sc. (Real Estate) students in Shanghai. Dr Muhd Faishal bin Ibrahim led a group of 22 students for a field trip to Shanghai from 19 - 23 Feb 2006. They visited a number of projects and real estate/urban planning offices to study the unique institutional features, market trends, and investment opportunities in China’s largest city. The students gained valuable insights of the Chinese real estate market. Click here to view the photos from the trip.

Summer Programme for full-time B.Sc. (Real Estate) students. A/P Yu Shi Ming and A/P Tu Yong will lead a class to Beijing and Tianjin from 28 May to 10 June 06. Students will attend intensive seminars at NUS during the week before departure, and have lectures in top universities in Beijing and Tianjin. They will visit real estate organizations, urban planning agencies, and various projects
in the two metropolises. The field experiences will be analyzed and consolidated in a project at NUS during the last three weeks of the programme. This will be the second time that the six-week Summer Programme is offered in the Department!

Residential Weekend for part-time B.Sc. (Real Estate) students. Dr Addae-Dapaah, Kwame will travel with some of the third and fourth-year part-time students to Beijing for a Residential Weekend from
29 May to 2nd June 2006. The group plans to visit some Singapore real estate firms operating in Beijing (Ascendas, Capitaland, Guocoland and Kepland), focusing on the business opportunities for foreign companies in China’s real estate sector.

 

 

MBA in Real Estate: Special Seminar

More than 150 participants attended a special seminar, which was held in  conjunction with the information session on the MBA with Specialization in Real Estate. The ½ day seminar on 14 December 2005 featured four award winning papers by faculty members of the Department of Real Estate, NUS. The seminar venue at the Orchard Parade Hotel was sponsored by Far East Organization.

Executive Training Programmes

DRE staff conducted a course on Real Estate Market Development and Management (Jan 3 to 9, 2006) to participants from various ministries and
the private sector in the rapidly urbanising Ho Chi Minh City.

The Foundation Course in Real Estate for Singapore Land Authority staff was held from Feb 8 - Mar 15, 2006.

The second Executive Masterclass on International Real Estate, Mar 4 – 27, 2006 focused on institutional investors & international real estate funds, financing international projects, and structuring real estate capital market products. This programme also covers investment opportunities in Central & Eastern Europe, Middle East and Asian real estate markets.

Upcoming Events

The Department will be conducting a 2-week Ministry of Foreign Affairs -commissioned Executive Programme in Housing (Apr 11 to 25, 2006) for government officials from Asian, African and South American countries.

The Advanced Course in Real Estate for Singapore Land Authority staff will be held from Apr 26 to May 10, 2006.

Assoc Prof Yu Shi Ming and Chai Chee Hian – Winners of the RICS Pacific Rim Property Research Journal Best Paper Award 2005

Alan Teo - Winner of the 2005 American Real Estate Society Journal Manuscript Prize for the best study published in Journal of Real Estate Portfolio Management.
