We are delighted to have Mr Alan Miyasaki, Senior Managing Director of Blackstone to speak about “Something A Little Different - The Real Estate Private Equity Sector”. In his talk, Mr Miyasaki shared the business and real estate strategies of Blackstone as well as offered some career advice for students who are interested to pursue a career in real estate private equity. The talk was followed by a dialogue session. Joining Mr Miyasaki on the panel were Ms Pauline Goh, CEO of CBRE Singapore and South-east Asia, and Mr Loh Wai Keong, Managing Director & Co-Head (Asia) of GIC Real Estate, who shared their inspiring career journeys as well as provide timely advice on strategies to ride through a challenging market. Prof Deng Yongheng

Dr Malone-Lee Lai Choo’s research proposals for Phase 2 of the study on “Benchmarks, Best Practices, and Framework for Sustainable Asian Cities” has received the Letter of Award from the Urban Redevelopment Authority (URA). She and her research team will receive a funding grant of $378,600 from URA and the research study will commence on 2 November 2015 for a 2-year period.

Dr Malone-Lee Lai Choo is invited by United Nations Economic & Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (UNESCAP) to participate in the UN-Water Regional Expert Consultation on Water Security in Asia-Pacific from 9-10 November 2015. This expert consultation to be held in Bangkok, Thailand will elicit water related leverage points as part of the implementation of the UN 2030 Sustainable Development Agenda and SDGs.

Congratulations to Assoc. Prof Joseph Ooi for winning two best paper awards at the American Real Estate Society’s 31st Annual Meeting in Ft. Myers, Florida. Some 255 papers were presented at the conference. Each award comes with a prize money of US$1,000.

Prof Sumit Agarwal's paper with Chomsisengphet, S., N. Mahoney and J. Stroebel entitled "Regulating Consumer Financial Products: Evidence from the Card Act" has been accepted at the Quarterly Journal of Economics (QJE).

Prof Deng Yongheng has been elected as the 50th President of the American Real Estate and Urban Economics Association (AREUEA) at the AREUEA-ASSA Annual Conference 2014 in Philadelphia. Prof Deng's appointment as AREUEA President enhances NUS' formidable global network and will further strengthen NUS' research capabilities in the area of real estate finance and economics, particularly on Asia.

His paper co-authored with Xin Liu and Shang-jin Wei entitled "One Fundamental and Two Taxes: When does a Tobin Tax reduce financial price volatility?" won the best paper award in the 2014 China International Conference in Finance (CICF), in Chengdu, China in July 2014.
He has been appointed as a member of the management board of Asia Research Institute at NUS from 1 July 2014 to 30 June 2016.

Prof Sumit Agarwal has been appointed as the Low Tuck Kwong Professor in the NUS Business School. The appointment is in recognition of his outstanding and impactful scholarly accomplishments, which are internationally acknowledged. It is tenable for a period of five years, from July 2014 to June 2019.

Assoc. Prof Alice Christudason was elected to be the Vice-Chair of the NUS Teaching Academy's Executive Council (Exco) with effect from 1 July 2014, for a two-year term. The Exco is actively involved in defining the direction of the Academy for both the short and long term. The Exco also undertakes the day-to-day operations of the Academy, and is responsible for making decisions on behalf of all Fellows.
